In 2018 Port and Lemon started working with the marine conservation charity, Sea-Changers. Sea-Changer work in a simple but impactful way. They raise money through partnership with businesses and their customers and that money is then given out to groups and projects to enable vital marine conservation initiatives and projects to take place right around the UK coast.
How we are helping
For the last year we have been donating 10% of our retail sales where customers are using the code SEACHANGERS and this also gives our customers a 10% discount on their purchaces as well. But a key part of our fundraising support has been the launch of a brand new print titled: ‘Beneath the Waves‘. This attractive coastal blue and white designed art print is from an original painting by Tracy. This decorative design is printed in two tones of blue and white and features a sailing boat on choppy waves above a serene underwater landscape of sea creatures and reef plants. A cheeky seal swims amongst fish, a turtle, a sea horse and a dolphin. On the seabed sits a crab and a star fish and hidden in the wave patterns there is even an octopus. The print features the words ‘Beneath the waves of fury there is calm’. The print is sold both framed and unframed and is available as a greetings card.
What our contribution does
The money we have been able to raise has contributed to the distribution of over 40 grants in 2019. These range from funding clean up in remote part of the Outer Hebrides to, awareness campaigns in Horsey to highlight the dangers of entanglement in plastic litter to seals and other marine wildlife. The projects Sea-Changers fund are practical and often seek to involve communities in solutions and activities. Examples of these include:
- The Solent Beach Hub run by Plant Aware. The Hub is a one-stop online “shop” providing details of beach cleans and other beach events happening in the Solent area that promote the marine environment.
- Living River Foundation who are working with local businesses and the community to reduce or eliminate the amount of plastic and other litter entering the Chatham Maritime Peninsular waterways in Kent, and improving the collection of the litter that does enter the water.
- East Suffolk Greenprint Forum who are running a project to raise awareness of pollution threats to waterways and inspire behaviour change that can mitigate these threats.
“We’re delighted to be able to support such a worthy charity. So much of our work is inspired by our coastal surroundings so it is great to be able to contribute to the Sea-Changers mission”.
