We’ve been keeping a bit quiet about this for some time now because we didn’t want to jinx anything, however, it looks like it will soon be a reality and so, to avoid the risk of suddenly being caught on the hop, we’ve decided to spill the beans and let the world know what the future holds for our little company. To say that we’ve been given a huge opportunity to progress to the next level is an understatement, thanks to Onward Trading, a Whitely based company run by Kate’s husband Ian and his partner Neil. Working in association with their company we will shortly be moving into a shop/studio in Warsash on the river Hamble. The premises will be a showroom for Onward’s top quality range of teak furniture and fittings which are perfect for home, garden or boat, as well as a variety of other nautical inspired home and gift wares including our full range of Port and Lemon products. We’ll also be selling individual art work, both 2D and 3D from local artists and makers that will fit in with our nautical theme. Kate and I will be running the shop and also operating our business from a working studio at the back of the shop. In the garden there is a good sized event space/workshop where we hope to have a programme of events running throughout the year. As well as teaching our own workshops we’d like to invite tutors to run workshops in all sorts of things, both craft based and other e.g. photography, creative writing, interior design and gardening. The space can also be offered up for exhibitions by individual artists or groups, yoga classes and a whole lot more. There’s a small courtyard garden which we’re sure we’ll make good use of in the summer too. Basically we like to think that this will become a bit of a creative hub for the community with drop in sessions and evening events and……well the possibilities are endless and it’s very difficult to stop ourselves getting carried away at this stage. So, here’s what we’re looking for – local artists and makers with work that is specifically influenced by the sea, primarily home wares rather than fashion/jewellery (although we hope that we may be able to stock a little at some point….ssshhhh don’t tell Ian!). We also want to hear from people who run workshops, the space may not be suitable for everyone of course, but once we’ve taken charge of the property we’ll invite you in for a look around. If you are an artist or group interested in using the space for exhibitions or as a meeting venue, and lastly, if you are looking at building your learning skills in anything and everything then please register your interest with us and we’ll add you to our mailing list for workshop programme. Click here and tell us what you’re interested in and we’ll make sure you get the information.
